Strong Families. Safe homes. Help when you need it.
Military life comes with unique challenges, and sometimes those challenges can put stress on relationships and Families. The Family Advocacy Program (FAP) exists to support Soldiers and Families through difficult times. Whether it’s building stronger parenting skills, learning new ways to manage stress, or finding safety from abuse, we’re here to help.
Our services are free, private, and focused on prevention and support. If you ever feel unsafe, call 911 right away. You can also reach the Family Advocacy Hotline any time of day or call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at +1(800)799-7233.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month
This observance highlights the importance of recognizing the many forms domestic abuse can take and ensuring that service members, intimate partners and families know where to turn for support.
Domestic abuse doesn’t discriminate. It does not pause for operational demands, exceptional job or duty performance, physical stature, age, financial standing or cultural background. Too often, the strength, resilience and discipline celebrated in military culture can mask the vulnerability an individual, couple or family feels at home.
Abuse is not limited to physical violence. It can include emotional manipulation, financial control, digital abuse and threats involving beloved pets. Increasing awareness of these different types of abuse can help individuals identify concerns early and access assistance, if needed.
Support and resources are available through the Family Advocacy Program for those affected by domestic abuse. Your dedication ensures that when our service members, intimate partners and military families face isolation, fear and relationship conflicts, they have a confidential and compassionate place to turn, staffed by skilled professionals.
During Domestic Violence Awareness Month, help raise awareness by sharing the MilLife Guides below with FAP clients, the military community and stakeholders. These guides can help service members, intimate partners and families recognize warning signs, learn about available resources, and connect with support:
- Physical Abuse MilLife Guide: Physical abuse includes acts such as hitting, kicking, and strangling. It may also be accompanied by threats of violence, emotional or psychological abuse, economic control, or restrictions on a person's freedom.
- Emotional Abuse MilLife Guide: Emotional abuse can involve excessive jealousy, monitoring activities and communications, controlling access to money, isolating a partner from friends and family, or making degrading statements. Share this resource to help individuals recognize unhealthy relationship behaviors.
- Financial Abuse MilLife Guide: Financial abuse is a form of domestic abuse that may include controlling household finances, restricting access to bank accounts, preventing employment, or withholding money for basic necessities. Financial abuse can also include preventing a partner from pursuing education or training opportunities to create financial dependence and maintain control. Share this information to increase awareness of this less visible form of domestic abuse, and to highlight options that support financial independence, career growth and educational assistance.
- Digital Abuse MilLife Guide: Technology can be misused to monitor, harass, or control a partner through online accounts, location tracking, connected devices or other digital tools. This guide offers information on protecting personal information.
- Domestic Abuse: Pet Safety MilLife Guide: Concerns about the safety of family pets can prevent someone from leaving an abusive situation. This guide explains the connection between pet abuse and domestic abuse, outlines available protections and highlights resources that can help keep both people and pets safe.
