#
Note: This event has already passed.

This is the only turn of the century light station open to the public.

Relax on a scenic motor coach trip down to Big Sur on Hwy 1. A docent will lead the group on a leisurely uphill walk to the lighthouse. During the walk, guests will most likely see a variety of nature tthat may include whales, sea lions, pelicans. falcons, eagles, or the great California Condor. See the rocks and crashing surf, or look back on the Big Sur Coastline as you feel the fog, wind, or the warm sunshine. ON the guided tour of the Point Sur station you can climb the lighthouse tower for a look at the view and the big light as you learn about the "ghosts" of light keepers past.

The light was first lit on August 1, 1889 and the Point Sur lighthouse has remained in continuous operation. In 1957 the former Point Sur Naval Facility was once part of a worldwide network of defensive listening stations that tracked the movement of Soviet submarines.
