Kayak the Bay with Presidio Outdoor Recreation

Trip Details:

Outdoor Rec sea kayaking trips launch at the Coast Guard Pier at nearby Breakwater Cove. Trips last approximately 1-1.5 hours. Participants have the option of single or double kayak (sign up with a friend). ODR provides equipment, instruction, and guided tour inluding a natural history tour of the Cannery Row shoreline and greater Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary.

 

What to Wear/ Bring:

Swim Trunk/ Towel

Warm top layer (non-cotton)

Waterproof Jacket

Strapped sandals or water-shoes (available for purchase at ODR)

Sunscreen, sunglasses, hat

 

About Monterey Bay:

Monterey Bay is home to many species of marine mammals including sea otters, harbor seals, bottlenose dolphins, and is a breeding site for Gray and Humpback whales. Many species of fish, sharks, mollusks, squid, birds, and sea turtles also live in the bay. Several varieties of kelp grow in the bay, some becoming as tall as trees, forming what is known as a kelp forest.

 

Itinerary:

1100 - Meet at POM, Outdoor Recreation, bldg. 228

1130 - Transport to Coast Guard Pier & receive safety briefing

1200 - Guided Kayak tour with instruction

1330 - Estimated arrival back to POM, Outdoor Recreation, bldg. 228
